July 2007
The July Barometer measures the job approval of the Mayor, City Council and City Attorney. It gauges San Diego's overall civic mood, whether the city's financial situation is improving and what local issues are most important. These are recurring questions which we can compare to results over time. This particular Barometer focuses on the situation surrounding the Sunroad building; a structure which exceeds the FAA's height limit and which has been front page news for some time. The amount of blame and credit residents ascribe to the principal actors in the dispute is measured. The effect the situation has had on the public's trust in local government is gauged, as is the credibility of serious charges leveled by the City Attorney and counter-charges leveled by the Mayor. Results on perceptions of the housing bubble will be released shortly. The research was conducted June 29 through July 3 among 500 San Diego city adult residents. More
May 2007
The May Barometer measures the job approval of the Mayor, City Council and City Attorney. It gauges San Diego's overall civic mood, whether the city's financial situation is improving and what local issues are most important. These are recurring questions which we can compare to results over time. With the city's budgeting process now upon us, this particular Barometer focuses on San Diego city budget matters and asks whether residents believe local taxes are too high or too low. Results on City budget priorities, the Mayor's position on the budget and firefighter raises are examined. The Barometer also measures the extent of support for privatizing government operations. The March Barometer deals with job approval of the Mayor, City Council, City Attorney, Governor and County Board of Supervisors, City and County issues, water and sewer rate increases, and support for a new Chargers stadium. Results on City budget priorities, public safety and economic development topics will be released shortly. The Barometer's initial focus measured consumer confidence, job approval of the Mayor, City Council, City Attorney and Governor, San Diegan's views about retirement and pensions, fiscal issues facing the City and the public's views about the decision by the Council to ban grocery-selling Walmart Supercenters.The research was conducted January 3 through 6 among 503 adult respondents within the City of San Diego.More
