The Record for Apathy

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

My final prediction for voter turnout in California’s 2014 mid-term elections is 45 percent to 47 percent, a record for apathy. The previous low of 51 percent, set in 2002, will be eclipsed due to a top of the ticket race that provoked more yawns than votes.

Those who are watching San Diego will see similar non-participation. My prediction for Countywide turnout is 47 percent to 49 percent.  We may reach 50 percent in the City of San Diego.  While that’s slightly better than what’s occurring across the state, it’s nothing to be proud of. Civic engagement isn’t what it used to be.
